Glen Rose High School placed third in the varsity girls division and fifth among the boys in the District 7-4A track and field meet held April 3-4 in Mineral Wells.

The top four places in each varsity event advance to the area meet, which will be April 17 in Springtown. From there, the regional qualifiers will compete in the Region I-4A event April 26-27 in Lubbock.

Glen Rose senior Hayden Shaw won the district championship in the boys shot put with a heave of 48 feet, 2-1/4 inches. Shaw recently competed in the state powerlifting meet and placed 8th in the superheavyweight class.

The GRHS girls 1,600-meter relay team (Kylie Frush, Lindsay Andress, Breanna Baker, Zaidey Mills) took second place with a time of 4:18.03.

Also, for the Tigers, second-place finishes were captured by Orrin Miller in the 3,200-meter run (11:12.19), Brady Taylor in the high jump (5-8) and Jess Niedziela in the discus (118-3).

Brownwood’s varsity girls team total of 272 easily topped runner-up Stephenville, which had 181. Glen Rose was third with 69 points. Brownwood also captured the varsity boys team title, with 188 points. Glen Rose had 70 points for fifth place.

In the girls junior varsity division, both the Glen Rose girls and boys won the team title. The GRHS JV girls won with 184 points, ahead of runner-up Brownwood with 130. The GRHS JV boys scored 177 points, while Brownwood was second with 150.
