The 2020 Tarleton Football schedule is here and Tarleton will make its debut into NCAA Division I with six FCS opponents.
"We're very excited about the schedule we were able to put together over the last three months," said head coach Todd Whitten. "Our administration worked very hard in putting together a really good first schedule at the FCS level and I'm excited to get back to work with these guys in the spring to prepare for next fall."
Tarleton will make its NCAA Division I debut in a place that is all too familiar to Whitten - Sam Houston State. Whitten, the all-time wins leader at Tarleton, is also a former head coach for the Bearkats (2005-09). Whitten will lead his Texans down to Huntsville for the season opener on September 5.
Over the month of September, three of the first four games are against FCS Division I opponents - all on the road. Tarleton will visit Sam Houston (Sept. 5), Murray State (Sept. 12) and Kennesaw State (Sept. 26). The first home game of the season will be Sept. 19 against former LSC rival UT Permian Basin.
In the month of October, Tarleton will fill its schedule with NCAA Division II opponents - which is not uncommon among transitioning programs - and all four games will be in Stephenville. The Texans will host Eastern New Mexico (Oct. 3), Texas A&M-Kingsville (Oct. 17), Midwestern State (Oct. 24) and Western Oregon (Oct. 31). The Oct. 17 game against Texas A&M-Kingsville will be Tarleton's annual homecoming game.
Tarleton will close out its first FCS schedule with three games in the month of November, including two home contests.
The Texans will host Missouri State on Nov. 7 for the first game against an FCS opponent at the Lonn Reisman Athletic Center at Memorial Stadium. Tarleton will travel to South Dakota State on Nov. 14 before closing the season against fellow-transitioning program Dixie State on Nov. 28.
All home games are scheduled for 6 p.m. Road game times have not yet been set. All times are subject to change.
