The Glen Rose High School girls powerlifting team won a tough tournament Jan. 29 in Saginaw, and GRHS had six individuals earn medals when the Tigers hosted their own meet on Jan. 30.

Four Lady Tigers who won their weight classifications — Angie Herrera, Abby Green, Courtney Chapman and Mallory Alexander. Medals were also earned for the Glen Rose girls by Madeline Kirkley, Liz Locke, Ciciali Rodriguez and Austin Woolard.

GRHS powerlifting coach Terry Harlin said he is “very proud of the girls as we were the only (Class) 4A school of the eight schools that competed; the others were 5A or 6A. We had several girls place in the top five, scoring points for their team and several who medaled in the top three. Equally important, everyone’s overall totals improved from our last meet.”

For the Tigers, Baker Butler won first place in his weight class in the Glen Rose meet. Teammates Parker Stephenson, Triston Black, Tony Ramos and Marcus Moseley also earned medals.

“It was a great meet that ran very smoothly because of great adult and student help and volunteers,” Harlin said of the GRHS boys meet, which featured a total of 76 lifters. “We had several lifters place in the top five, several medal in the top three, and continued improvement from all of our lifters. We also had some first time lifters who represented equally well.”

The GRHS meet was won by Class 5A Granbury, and Fort Worth Brewer took second.

Next for the GRHS powerlifters will be a girls meet Feb. 12 in Azle, and a boys meet Feb. 23 at Brewer.
