Seven Glen Rose High School girls have qualified for the regional powerlifting meet, which will be March 7 at Del Valle High School near Austin.
Angie Herrera, Abby Green, Bailee Boyett, Emery Brewer, Courtney Chapman, Austin Woolard and Mallory Alexander are the Lady Tigers who advanced, coach Terry Harlin announced.
The boys regional qualifiers won’t be known until next week after other regional results are in, Harlin noted.
The Lady Tigers placed second among eight schools — all Class 5A and 6A, other than 4A Glen Rose — in the team standings at their last meet, Feb. 19 at Eaton High School in Haslet.
Green and Chapman won their respective weight classes, while Alexander earned second place and Woolard placed third.
More than 80 lifters competed at the meet, from Granbury, Azle, Justin Northwest, Northwest Eaton, Boswell, Saginaw and Saginaw Chisholm Trail high schools.
“We had six of our 12 lifters medal in the top three, another score three additional points for our team by placing in the top five, and all 12 lifters placed in the top 10,” Harlin stated. “(The) girls are already working hard in preparation to succeed at regionals. We’re all looking forward to a great showing.”
