The Glen Rose High School softball squad rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning on solo home runs by Taylor McKenzie and Mallory Goff Tuesday evening, but came up short and took a 6-2 non-district loss at Venus.
McKenzie was 3-for-4 at the plate while Goff was 2-for-3 to lead the Lady Tigers’ eight-hit offensive output. McKenzie had one stolen base.
Kaylee McDonald, Kaycee Bock and Catalina Sanchez added hits for Glen Rose.
Venus led the Lady Tigers since taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning, then added another run in the bottom of the third. The Lady Tigers then gave up four more runs in the fourth.
Addison Nance was the Lady Tigers’ starting pitcher and worked 3-1/3 innings before being relieved by McKenzie. Nance struck out seven and walked four while allowing five runs (four earned) on just two hits. McKenzie gave up one run on three hits while striking out five and walking none in three innings.
The Lady Tigers, now 7-8 on the season, were scheduled to play in the Llano Tournament starting Thursday (March 5) through Saturday.
