Zach Turnham hauled in a 36-yard scoring pass from Eddie Whitt with 2:46 remaining and Walnut Springs held on defensively for a 48-42 win in the second round of the UIL Six-Man Division II playoffs at Dublin last Friday,

The win was the seventh straight for the 8-3 Hornets, who advance to meed undefeated Star, 11-0, in round three. Star used a stellar offensive attack to eliminate Leverett's Chapel, a team Walnut Springs clipped in overtime during District 15 action, 101-56.

Sidney grabbed its first lead of the contest at 42-40 with a two-yard run and a successful two-point kick with 3:50 remaining, but it took the Hornets just more than a minute to answer with the winning score.

The back-and-forth pace was the same all night, with no team scoring twice in a row after Sidney crossed the goal line last in the second and first in the third.

Caleb Ballesteros scored the first two touchdowns, one on a 76-yard run in the first and the other on a 33-yard pass from Whitt to start the scoring in the second.

Sidney cut into the lead with a 41-yard pass and PAT kick, but the Hornets answered with a 12-yard touchdown run by Johnathan Stack. Sidney scored once more on a five-yard run just before the half, cutting the Hornet advantage to 20-14.

Ballesteros continued his big night with a 10-yard pass from Whitt and an 82-yard kickoff return, big plays that were sandwiched around a short three-yard Sidney scoring run. He followed Sidney's next score with yet another touchdown, his fifth of the night, on a nine-yard pass from Whitt, who tossed four scores.

Sidney scored before and after Ballesteros' final touchdown on a pair of two-yard runs, but couldn't stop Whitt and Turnham from hooking up for the game winner.

Ballesteros finished with 91 yards receiving and 82 yards rushing, while Johnathan Stack led the team on the ground with 120. Whitt was 10-12 passing 151 yards.

Defensively, the Hornets were led by three double-digit tacklers. Turnham made 14 stops, Kody Stack had 11 and Ballesteros tallied 10.
