On a mission to return to the state playoffs, Glen Rose started its District 8-3A volleyball journey with a good first step last Friday.

The Lady Tigers whipped Hillsboro 25-17, 25-11, 25-12.

They continued district action Tuesday against Kennedale and visit Alvarado Friday. See the Oct. 6 edition of The Reporter for a coverage of this week’s matches.

Katy Irvin and Mika Kelly West landed six kills shots and five respectively, while Samantha Strother tallied eight blocks.

Kaitlin West registered 20 passes and Teryl Dunn added 19. Kelly (13), Katie Uehlein (13) and Reilly Junge (12) also reached double figures.

Irvin and Uehlein served 12 times each and Brittan Sanderson served 11 times in the sweep.

Glen Rose also defeated Dublin last week, cruising to a 25-14, 21-25, 25-16, 25-19 win in the Lady Tigers’ final non-district match on Sept. 21.

Irvin led in kills (8) and passes (31) against the Lady Lions, while Uehlein led in serves (20) and was second in kills (6). Strother had eight blocks and Jessie Calkins posted three.
