The JV Lady Tiger basketball team has quite a challenge on its hands this week competing in the varsity Luminant/Glen Rose Lions Club Tournament, but Glen Rose isn’t backing down.

The JV Lady Tigers gave it their best shot in a 63-26 loss to Fort Worth Christian on Thursday morning.

“I thought the girls did pretty well (for) being pulled into this tournament,” said coach Robbie Gibson. “They were a little nervous, but as the game went I thought they did fairly well.”

Scorers included Mary McPherson (8), Kalli Crabtree (6), Bryse Brownen (6), Lexi Crabtree (3), Madison Morrow (2) and Cheyenne Van Winkle (1).

Glen Rose impressively made seven three-pointers, including two each for Kalli Crabtree, McPherson and Brownen.

“Kalli, Mary and Bryse all did a nice job shooting threes,” Gibson said. “That’s the best we’ve shot from long range this year, which was really good to see. I told them when they get open they have to shoot in this tournament.”

Against Clifton on Thursday night, the JV Lady Tigers lost 65-23. Clifton made 11 three-pointers in the win. Top scorers for Glen Rose were Kimberlee McCullough (8), Kalli Crabtree (3), Mary McPherson (3) and Cheyenne Van Winkle (3).

On Friday, the JV Lady Tigers lost to Hamilton 43-23. Bryse Brownen led the way with nine points on three three-pointers. Other notable scorers were McPherson (4) and Van Winkle (4).

On Saturday, the JV Lady Tigers nearly managed to defeat Meridian, as they lost 27-25. Top scorers included Kalli Crabtree (7), Brownen (4), Sydney Stegint (4), Mary McPherson (4) and Cheyenne Van Winkle (4).

"My girls played full-court pressure defense and gave it all they had," said Gibson.
