The Freshman Lady Tigers literally couldn’t have played defense any better than they did in the first half on Tuesday night.
Glen Rose won its fifth game in the last six tries by a 33-13 margin over visiting Venus. Glen Rose led 13-0 after the first quarter and 22-0 at halftime.
“We came out pressing and playing man defense,” coach Carrie Lytle said. “Venus isn’t a fundamentally strong team, so we had a lot of opportunities to steal the ball and make layups. At halftime, the girls’ goal was to try to keep them at zero. It didn’t happen, but it’s good to have a team goal along with the individual goals the girls have.”
With the win already in the bag for Glen Rose, each team scored six in the third and Venus took the fourth quarter 7-5.
Leading scorers were Hailey Allen (7), Megan Bretton (6) and Brynna Taylor (6).
“Hailey did well to finish on several layups off of steals,” Lytle said. “Megan hit some jumpers to get her points. Brynna was getting her offense from offensive rebounds and going back up with the ball.”
Other scorers included Dakotah Ponce (5), Page Green (3), Bailey Brown (2), Mackenzie Morrison (2) and Anna Douglas (2).
“Mackenzie Morrison did a great job of seeing the court last night (and) making some great passes,” the coach said. “We just need to keep going in the direction we’re going.”
