Graham seems to have good depth in its boys’ basketball program, because its teams presented quite a challenge for visiting Glen Rose on Tuesday.
The JV Tigers lost their matchup with Graham 51-36. The game was essentially decided in a first quarter Graham won 17-2. The Tigers either won or stayed within two points in each remaining quarter.
“We didn’t start strong in either half,” said coach Erik Hartman, considering the Tigers lost the third quarter 8-6. “If we’d played the whole game like we did in the second and fourth quarters we’d have had a shot. We just have to be more consistent.”
Notable scorers for the Tigers were Chance Nabours (9), Derek Kramer (7), Sam Strother (6) and Jayden Reynolds (6).
Meanwhile, the Freshman Tigers lost to Graham 53-29, which snapped Glen Rose’s six-game winning streak. Top scorers were Tucker Garza (13), Wyatt Goebel (8), Dylan Hammond (3), Nick Fowler (2) and Bailey Holder (2).
“Graham came out real aggressive in the first half and we were flat; that was the difference,” said coach Sam Schuelke. “We did better in a competitive second half to get within 12. Tucker did a nice job offensively and with his assists. Our team defense wasn’t where it has been, so we have to get that fixed.”
Both teams will return to action in Stephenville on Friday.
