To see some serious action while helping kids this holiday season join the Cowboy Capital Rollergirls at Lone Star Arena in Stephenville on Saturday, when the CCR will host their holiday mashup bout at 6 p.m.

Every CCR event raises money or collects items to help a local charity. Past events have raised funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters, Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council, TX Adopt-A-Highway, Relay For Life, CASA, Fosters Home for Children, Cross Timbers Pregnancy Care Center and many others. Saturday's bout will collect toys for Toys for Tots.

It will be the second bout on their new track at Lone Star Arena. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the first whistle will blow at 6.

There will be two bouts, both featuring inter-league mashups. The first will feature advanced skaters and the second will be an intermediate bout. Ashley Gill, CCR president, said the mashup teams are "a mix of six skaters from different leagues coming together to play roller derby and support a great cause."

Fans will be able to see skaters representing 16 different roller derby teams from across Texas and Oklahoma. Local favorites from CCR will be separated throughout the four special holiday-themed teams, including Team Grinch and Santa's Helpers. Santa will even be there from the North Pole to cheer on his helpers and meet with kids.

"This will be a really fun, family-friendly event," said Gill. "We will have plenty of hard-hitting roller derby action, Santa will be taking pictures for $2, the Marines and some local Girl Scouts will help collect Toys for Tots donations and we have a great half-time fan participation game planned with assistance from the Granbury High School ROTC program."

While this is an off-season match for the CCR, the league's regular season will begin Feb. 16 when the teams travel to Fort Smith, Ark.

Advance tickets are $10 and $12 at the door. Bring a new, unwrapped toy and tickets are $5. Kids 10 and under are free.
