On Saturday, the Lady Tiger junior high volleyball teams traveled to compete in the Stephenville A-team volleyball tournament.

There were a dozen seventh grade teams and a dozen eighth grade squads.

The Lady Tiger seventh grade A-team emerged from five pool teams in second place, as it beat Copperas Cove and Granbury while also splitting games against Stephenville and Abilene Wylie.

The seventh graders then played three-straight bracket matches, getting started with a win over Mineral Wells (25-15, 25-14). In round two, they lost to Weatherford Hall (8-25, 25-23, 10-25). In the third-place match, Glen Rose beat Waco Midway 25-23 and 29-27.

“The girls played hard all day,” said coach Sandra Taylor. “Credit goes to them for great teamwork. They played high-caliber volleyball against junior highs from 4A and 5A school districts. Congratulations to every one of them.”

Meanwhile, the Lady Tiger eighth grade A-team also faced very stiff competition. After facing Copperas Cove, Granbury, Abilene Wylie and Stephenville, they emerged third out of the five-team pool. In the first round of bracket play, they lost to Weatherford Hall 14-25 and 18-25, thus ending their tournament run.
