On Thursday night, the JV and Freshman Tiger football teams hit the road to face Kennedale.
The JV Tigers (2-4) had their opportunities, but came up just short in a 21-15 loss.
“We were up 8-6, but they got an interception and scored on a short drive before the half,” said coach Keith Wheeler. “In the third quarter, they had a long drive to score again and we didn’t even get any snaps in the third. Kennedale had some good running backs.
“We pulled within 21-15 with three minutes left in the game, but didn’t get the onside kick. The guys did come up with one of our several fourth-down stops in the fourth, but we just ran out of time.”
Quarterback Colton Lane threw for 114 yards and two touchdowns to go with 36 rushing yards. Chance Nabours caught three passes for 57 yards and a touchdown, while adding 89 other yards (returns, rushing) and a fumble recovery on defense. Colton Bumpas finished with 37 receiving yards and a touchdown.
On defense, top Tiger tacklers were Trevor Crawford (9), Trey Yocham (8) and Jacob Locke (7).
The JV Tigers will return to the field on Thursday at home against Stephenville at 6:30 p.m.
The Freshman Tigers (2-3) lost to Kennedale 24-6. The Tiger touchdown came on a 10-yard pass from Wyatt Goebel to Stone Costello.
“We were inconsistent on both sides of the ball,” said coach Kiel Miller. “We couldn’t piece together a good drive until late in the game.”
The Freshman Tigers will go after their third win on Thursday at home against Stephenville at 5 p.m.
