In soccer, teams often play consecutive games without scoring a single goal.

Not the TommyGirls of Glen Rose.

The TommyGirls racked up 16 goals in five contests, an average of more than three goals per game, and pitched three shutouts on their way to the championship in the U-14 division of the Mike Mendicello Memorial Soccer Tournament last weeend in Longview. No team finished within a single goal of the Glen Rose girls all weekend.

The TommyGirls were also dominant on the defensive end of the field, especially on Saturday when they didnít allow a single goal in three preliminary contests.

A 3-0 opening defeat of the Longview Comets, followed by a 5-0 hammering of the Longview Pumas and a 2-0 shutout of the Nacogdoches Fire qualified the TommyGirls for the semifinals.

On Sunday, the Glen Rose girls knocked off the Henderson Thrashers 3-1 in the semis, and saved their best offensive performance for last in a 6-1 pounding of the Nacogdoches Lightining in the championship.
