Walnut Springs is fresh from a week off, but still fresh on its six game win streak as the Hornets prepare to battle Sidney in the second round of the UIL Six-Man Division II football playoffs at 7:30 p.m. in Dublin Friday.

Sidney, 9-1, rebounded from a regular-season-ending loss that cost it a district championship by eliminating Zephyr, 52-38, in the bi-district round of the playoffs.

Walnut Springs, 7-3 and champions of District 15, drew a bye in the opening round. The Hornets are led offensively by Johnathan Stack, who is averaging 87.7 yards passing and 68.3 yards rushing for a total of 156 all-purpose yards per game.

Eddie Whitt paces the Hornets in scoring with 8.4 points per outing, while Kody Stack fuels the defense with 9.6 tackles per game.

Sidney has outscored Walnut Springs this year, but by the slimmest of margins - 52.7 to 49.

The winner meets either Star or Leverett’s Chapel, a team the Hornets edged in double overtime, 72-66, during district play, in the regional final next week.
