The Walnut Springs Hornets led several times during Thursday’s area playoff game against Coolidge in Covington, as the game came down to the fourth quarter.
Coolidge won the fourth 19-10 to storm back for a 64-58 victory.
The Hornets won both the first (20-19) and third (14-10) quarters, as each of the first three quarters were decided by four points or less.
Junior Jessy Ramos was outstanding in defeat with 26 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Other prime scorers included Carlos Lerma (15 PT, 3 RB, 5 AST, 2 STL) and Zane Trotter (11 PT, 9 RB, 3 AST). Further contributors of note included Trenton Trotter (4 PT, 5 RB, AST, BLK), Ciro Chavez (2 PT, 3 RB) and Tony Chavez (2 RB, 8 AST, 5 STL).
It was a rock-solid season for the Hornets, as they finished with a record of 23-7.
"The boys played a great game," said coach Tim Trotter. "We pretty much traded scores all night until the end and we had a crucial miss that would have put us up by one with 1:30 left to play. Then we had to foul to get the ball back and couldn't score and (Coolidge) hit their free throws. I am very proud of the kids and the year we had."
