Thanks to a win in their home tournamnet earlier this summer, the Glen Rose Tigers are advancing to the Class A-3A Division of the FSN Southwest 7-on-7 state championship presented by Adidas and Academy Sports & Outdoors this weekend.

The Tigers join a 32-team field in preliminary action today. The schools are divided into eight 4-team pools. Round robin pool play will determine the seeds of the schools for bracketing purposes.

In pool play, the Tigers wil face Wellington at 1 p.m. today, followed by Waco Reicher at 2 p.m. and Navasota at 3 p.m.

The first round of single-elimination bracket play begins at 5 p.m. Thursday, and continues on Saturday.

Glen Rose is one of nine schools in the field that qualified by winning a tournament it hosted, joining Bandera, Childress, Crane, Diboll, Gatesville, Hardin, La Villa and Normangee.

Three teams from the newy aligned District 7-3A have qualified, with the Tigers being joined by Gatesville and West. The District ties 18-3A, represented by Carthage, Diboll and Jasper, for the most in the small school division.

The Tigers are one of 13 teams who return after competing in the first small school field last year, joining Bandera, Celina, Crane, Diboll, Hardin, Hitchcock, La Villa, Melissa, Navasota, Normangee, Rockdale and West.
