The JV Lady Tigers had a battle on their hands Tuesday, but Glen Rose stayed the course and earned another district win.

While the Lady Tigers led 8-0 after one quarter, they lost the second and fourth on the way to a 30-24 victory.

“(Venus) played us closer this time,” said coach Robbie Gibson. “We had the good first quarter, but then we sat on 10 (points) for most of the second quarter and weren’t able to keep the momentum. Our passes in transition were off the mark, too.”

Lexi Crabtree played very well with 11 points, as she scored in every quarter.

“Lexi was going to the hole,” Gibson said. “She got some steals and (ensuing) layups; she did a really good job.”

Kimberlee McCullough also scored in each quarter and finished with eight points.

“Kimberlee was scoring off offensive rebounds, but she also hit a couple of good jumpers from 10 feet,” Gibson said.

Other scorers included Cheyenne Van Winkle (3), Jennifer Herrera (2), Kalli Crabtree (2), Bailey Barrios (2) and Sydney Stegint (2).

“Bailey did a really good job on defense, even as she is still learning since recently joining the team,” the coach said.

Trailing 21-13 going into the fourth quarter, Venus kept plugging away and narrowly won the fourth 11-9 to keep the Lady Tigers on their toes. Glen Rose has now won four of its last five games.

“We need to be a little more disciplined on our fast breaks,” Gibson said. “If something isn’t there, we need to pull the ball out and run our offense.”
