Defense ruled the day on Tuesday when the JV Lady Tigers hosted Hillsboro.

Glen Rose won its third game in the last four tries by a 30-19 margin. The Lady Tigers only allowed 11 points after the first quarter.

“After the first quarter, I told the girls we needed to hold them to as few points as possible,” coach Robbie Gibson said. “We didn’t block out well as the game went on, plus we had too many turnovers.”

Hillsboro actually won the first quarter 8-6, but the Lady Tigers took control for good with a 12-4 second quarter.

“We seemed to get into our offense better in the second quarter, which led to some better looks,” Gibson said. “We went into our zone offense, and the girls like that.”

Although neither team scored much in the second half, Hillsboro wasn’t far from being shut out.

Kimberlee McCullough led her team with seven points.

“Kimberlee is a strong rebounder with a nice jump shot and she’s playing well,” the coach said. “We just need to get her to use her left hand more.”

Kalli Crabtree and Cheyenne Van Winkle each scored five.

“Kalli anticipates (opposing) passes well and gets steals for us,” the coach said. “Cheyenne really holds her own in the high post; she works hard to get open.”

Other scorers included Brenna Ibarra (4), Jennifer Herrera (2), Sydney Stegint (2), Lexi Crabtree (2), Mary McPherson (2) and Amber Ponce (1).

“Brenna works hard on defense out there,” Gibson said. “Jennifer continues to play well on defense.”

The JV Lady Tigers will now travel to Stephenville on Friday for a 5 p.m. game.

“We need to have some good workouts heading into our Friday game,” Gibson said.
