Glen Rose earned plenty of recogntion as a team in the recently released Dave Campbell’s 2008 Texas Football Magazine, and senior quarterback Derek Thompson is a big reason why.

Thompson is surrounded by talent at Glen Rose, but the senior’s own abilities stand out in the eyes of recruiting coordinators.

Texas Football ranks Thompson among the top 20 quarterbacks in the state on its list titled “2008 Texas Top 300,” and also recognizes him as one of seven “Money Players” in Class 3A.

Thompson, who is listed at 6-3, 215 with a 40-time of 4.7 seconds, is one of only two Class 3A signal callers in the magazine’s top 20, joining Frisco Wakeland’s Will Secord (6-2, 200, 4.7). No 3A prospects are listed on the “Best of the Rest” list at QB.

In the “Money Players” commentary, Thompson is noted for being a returning district MVP - the Tigers competed in 12-3A last fall, but are entering District 7 - and for finishing just shy of 4,000 yards of total offense as a junior. He also had a hand in 35 touchdowns for the 2007 Division 2 Region I finalists.

Joining Thompson on the 3A “Money Players” list are China Spring WR Mike Hicks, Jasper QB Dominique Bailey, Lyford QB Johnny Esparza and WR Andrew Delgado, Bellville RB Garrette Nunn and Chapel Hill RB matthew Tucker
