Coach Kiel Miller knew the Lady Tigers would have to be sharp to defeat a strong Mart team in the Glen Rose Tournament on Thursday evening, and the red team had some miscues that hurt the cause.

Glen Rose (3-2) actually finished with more hits (12-10) in a 10-4 loss, but Mart was much better defensively with just one error compared to six for the Lady Tigers.

“I expected Mart to be good,” Miller said. “I think we can potentially be really good, but we had (four) errors and they scored five runs in the third (alone). We hit the ball well and played well with (Mart) at times, but the errors were the difference.”

Freshman pitcher Hannah Morales (5 IP, 10 R, 10 H, 4W, 2 K) saw her night become much more difficult with the errors.

“Hannah was up there throwing strikes and we didn’t make the plays to support her,” Miller said. “You have to help your pitcher out.”

Morales also connected on two doubles and a single.

“That’s a good showing for Hannah, considering the opponent,” Miller said.

Amber Ponce (triple, single) and Alex Dahl (2 singles) each had two hits. Other hitters included Madison Calvert (triple, RBI), Page Green (single, RBI), Kelsy Massey (single) and Destiny Ponce (RBI).

“Those were big quality at bats by Madison and Amber to get triples against that team,” Miller said. “They both hit the ball really hard.”

The Lady Tigers return to tourney action on Friday at noon against Whitney.

“We have to cut out the errors; it’s just unacceptable,” Miller said.
