Sometimes you just have to wipe that bad taste right out of your mouth.

That has to be the feeling among members of the Glen Rose Lady Tigers volleyball program after the 2008 varsity squad missed the playoffs for the first time since 1993.

Glen Rose sets its sights on righting the ship and returning to the place where the Lady Tigers feel at home - the post season - after 14 straight years of residing there before last season.

GRHS joins countless other high school volleyball programs in the beginning of preseason workouts on Monday, marking the beginning of the 2009 season.

Gone are the likes of graduated seniors Bridget Burns, Brielle Nicholson, Ashton Edwards and Dora Ibarra, but returning for veteran coach Linda Waggoner and staff are experienced letter winners Jessie Calkins, Kaitlin West and Shelby Junge, among others, who look to lead the way.

Glen Rose hosts Class 2A members Dublin and Hamilton in a three-way scrimmage just four days after two-a-days begin on Aug. 7, travel to Mineral Wells on Aug. 8, then welcome Mineral Wells to GRHS for the regular season opener on Aug,. 11.

The preseason slate includes a pair of tournaments as the Lady Tigers compete in tourney action in Grandview Aug. 14-15, then serve up pool and bracket play again in Dublin on Aug. 27 and Aug. 29.

District 7-3A competition begins September 25 when Glen Rose hosts Hillsboro. Other 7-3A members include Whitney, China Spring, Gatesville and West.
