Walnut Springs continues to roll in Class A Region II-Division II District 20 basketball action, thanks to a pair of wins against Acquilla, 42-37, and Rapoport Academy, 54-29, last week.

Courtney Gibbons and Whitleigh Billman formed a two-man wrecking crew for the Lady Hornets, much the same way they have all season for the 21-3 club that is now 8-1 in league play.

Both Gibbons and Billman scored 12 points against Acquilla. Gibbons had a double-double with 10 rebounds, and also collected eight steals and three blocked shots. Billman had three steals and a pair of blocks to go with her scoring.

Against Rapoport Academy, which is out of Waco, Gibbons posted 20 points and nine boards, while Billman had 12 points to go with five steals.

Against Acquilla, the Lady Hornets led by just one entering the fourth, but outscored AHS 10-6 in the final frame to secure the win.

Walnut Springs had to fight off a strong performance by AHS standout Monique Moss, who had 11 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

WSHS led Acquilla 13-9 after one, but saw its advantage cut to one at 19-18 when the teams left the court for the halftime break. The teams each scored 13 in the third to setup the fourth.

At Rapoport Academy on Friday, the Lady Hornets built a comfortable 34-10 halftime lead before calling the dogs off after the break.

Walnut Springs outscored Rapoport 12-5 in the opening period, then blew the game open with a 22-5 scoring margin in the second.

The Lady Hornets made the short trip to Morgan on Tuesday, are idle on Friday and face Blum - the only team to have defeated WSHS in district play - next Tuesday.
