West got the pass completion it needed, but the receiver was tackled at the Glen Rose 1-yard line as time ran out, allowing the Tigers to hold on for a dramatic 15-12 victory in District 8-3A sub-varsity football action last week.
Glen Rose stretched its lead to 15-6 early in the fourth quarter before West scored then forced a punt to set up its final chance.
The Tigers were led by quarterback Colton Bretton with a touchdown rushing and another passing. He finished with 70 yards on the ground and four completions for 85 yards through the air and also scored on a 2-point conversion.
Logan Caylor rushed for 80 yards and made an extra-point kick, and Westley Pritchard had two catches for 35 yards and a TD. Jake Sullivan added a 40-yard catch, Keith McAnally caught a 25-yard pass and Austin Gibson and Billy Perez each rushed for 10 yards.
Carter Brandt, McAnally and Perez led the defense with five tackles each. Logan Douglas, Jeremy Cates, Austin Mapes and Gibson each had four stops while Jack Payne, Joey Vollmer, Hance Burney, Westley Pritchard and Sullivan had three each.
