The “B” teams picked up wins while the “A” teams suffered losses when the Glen Rose Junior High girls basketball squads battled Whitney Monday.
The seventh grade “B” girls used a six-point fourth quarter to edge Whitney 9-6. Becca Floyd led the way with three points while Meghan Branham, Sierra Armstrong and Kedzie Sheets added two each.
It also took a fourth-quarter comeback for the eighth “B” Lady Tigers, who outscored Whitney 5-1 in the final period of a 19-18 win. They were led by Consuelo Galindo with six points. Erika Rodriguez and Kortney Hodge both scored four, Anna Lerma added three and Shelby Bybee had two.
The eighth “A” girls from GRJH couldn’t overcome a 20-10 halftime deficit, falling 35-29 despite eight points each from Maria Contreras and Carol Darch. Other scorers included Amber Ponce (4), Sloan Williams (4), Erica Lopez (3) and Cheyenne Harton (2).
The seventh “A” Lady Tigers fell behind 26-5 at halftime and never recovered in a 34-14 defeat. Meredith Odom (5), Jaycee Long (3), Kimberlee McCullough (2), Bailey Randall (2) and Madison Morrow (2) provided the scoring.
