The rain definitely did not dampen the enthusiasm of this year’s participants in the third annual Glen Rose Optimist Club/NFL Punt, Pass and Kick contest held Saturday at Tiger Stadium. Entrants this year came from Santo, Hamilton and Granbury, as well as the Glen Rose area. While the scores were being tabulated, Glen Rose High School football standouts Cody Burtscher and Austin Gibson talked to the kids about what it is like to play high school football. Both emphasized that you want to set your mind “to do the very best you can” when you participate in any activity. Optimist President Wayne Rotan also reminded the kids of the importance of getting good grades so they can participate in school activities.

Each participant showed his or her punting, passing and kicking skills. The efforts of each child were then measured for distance and accuracy. The results of the competition were as follows:

Ages 6-7 Boys: First Place – Bryce Plzak, Second Place – Caleb Plzak

Ages 6-7 Girls: No Entries

Ages 8-9 Boys: First Place – Brandon Munoz, Second Place – Jackson Roberts, Third Place – Blake Glass

Ages 8-9 Girls: No Entries

Ages 10-11 Boys: First Place – Jace Karels, Second Place – Parker Simmons

Ages 10-11 Girls: First Place – Kiara Bruce

Ages 12-13 Boys: First Place – Diego Aguilar, Second Place – Westin Halcolm, Third Place – Jett Karels

Ages 12-13 Girls: First Place – Bryanna Lytle, Second Place – Brittany Miller, Third Place – Krystle Miller

Ages 14-15 Boys: First Place – Louis Cocita, Second Place – Robert Blue

Ages 14-15 Girls: First Place – Sarah Ward

Trophies were awarded to all first, second and third place winners. All participants received a certificate signed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

All the first-place winners may compete in the Sectional PPK Competition to be held Saturday, Oct. 13, at 10 a.m. at Gateway Synthetic Turf Field (4800 East 1st St.) in Fort Worth.
