Johnathan Stack rushed for three touchdowns and passed for three more to lead Walnut Springs past Morgan, 54-8, clinching outright possession of the District 15 title in Six-Man Division II.
Morgan is the fourth opponent to fall to Walnut Springs by six-man’s 45-point mercy rule, as the Hornets ran their regular season record to 7-3, and finished district play with a perfect 4-0 mark.
Next up for WSHS is a regional quarterfinal playoff game in the Six-Man Division II Region II postseason bracket. The Hornets have a first-round bye, and meet the winner of Zephyr-Sidney.
Stack rushed for 131 yards on six carries, with scoring trips covering 55, 40 and 14 yards. He was also a perfect 4-4 passing for 115 yards with scoring strikes of 40, 25 and 15 yards. He finished with a hand in 246 yards of offense in less than three quarters of action.
The scoring began slow, but Walnut Springs grabbed the early lead when Stack connected with Eddie Whitt on a 40-yard touchdown.
The lead would grow in the second when Whitt when Whitt hit Jacob White with a two-yard touchdown strike.
Morgan got on the board with a two-yard touchdown plunge, but there was no slowing the Hornets’ sting.
Stack raced to paydirt from 55 yards away then delivered White’s second scoring reception of the first half from 25 yards out.
The defense shut Morgan out after the break, and Stack continued his heroics to seal the mercy-rule win.
Stack’s second and third touchdown runs were followed by his final scoring pass, this one a 15-yard toss to Zach Turnham, that ended the blowout with 2:50 left in the third.
The Hornet defense was led by Kody Stack with nine tackles, while Zach Turnham had eight and Caleb Ballesteros registered seven.
