Jonesboro lasted until after halftime but couldn’t make it to the end of the third quarter before Walnut Springs built a 56-8 lead to invoke six-man football’s 45-point mercy rule and improve 5-0 on the season.
The visiting Hornets scored twice in each of the first two quarters to jump ahead 28-0 at the half. It was 34-0 early in the third before Jonesboro scored its only points. The Hornets then hit pay dirt three times in just over five minutes to complete the rout.
Kody Stack began the scoring with a five-yard run on offense then added two special teams touchdowns with a 45-yard punt return late in the second and a 78-yard kickoff return to open the third.
Eddie Whitt fired two touchdown passes covering 10 and five yards to Andrew Herring and also scored on a 21-yard run.
Ryan Engelhardt ran for a 29-yard TD and Jacob White finished the scoring on a 22-yard pass from Mario Ballesteros.
Stack finished with 41 rushing yards and 123 return yards and also made a game-high 14 tackles.
The Hornets are heavy favorites this week as they host Happy Hill Farm on Saturday.
