More often than not, the JV Lady Tigers have obliterated the competition this season.

Tuesday night was one of those cases, as Glen Rose moved to 16-5 this year with a 25-9 and 25-9 win over Venus.

The JV Lady Tigers didn’t give Venus much time to think it had a chance, jumping out to an 8-1 lead in game one on the way to 25-9. Top servers were Lexi Crabtree (7 points), Kalli Crabtree (4) and Madison Morrow (2).

“This was a similar match to the first time we played them,” said coach Deanna Bozarth. “I thought the girls played well, even though (Venus) wasn’t playing at that level. It’s really easy to start making mistakes in a match like that.

“Meghan (Branham) did good when she was in during game one with several kills. She didn’t make any mistakes.”

Game two saw Glen Rose go up 6-1 and then 13-2. Olivia Banz smashed two early kills and then had a six-point serving streak (4 aces). Each Crabtree had an early ace and Jarissa Keller came up with a block for 13-2.

“Lexi and Kalli have been very consistent serving,” Bozarth said. “They always score a lot of points for us. Banz is an all-around player. It’s great that a big girl can play back row like that and serve as good as she does.”

Though Venus dug down for a run to 9-16, Keller stopped the momentum with a kill and then Brenna Ibarra put the match away with an eight-point serving streak (2 aces). Banz had a late kill to lock it up.

“I was really proud of Brenna,” the coach said. “She has struggled with her serve at times, so to see her get over that hump and have such a good game was great. We need to try to finish up on a good note because we’ve had such a great season.”
