Glen Rose had another busy week of non-district volleyball action last week, splitting eight matches down the middle to run its record to 19-9.
The Lady Tigers, who lost to Grandview and trumped Breckenridge on top of finishing fourth in the Peaster Tournament last week, visited Rio Vista on Tuesday, travel to Eastland on Friday and will go to Dublin on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
Glen Rose jumped on top of Grandview with a 25-23 first-set win on Sept. 1, but quickly lost control of the match with three straight losses in games 2-4. Grandview won the second set 25-18, the third 25-20 and the fourth 25-22.
The Lady Tigers did pick up superlatives from Katy Irvin with 17 kills and Kaitlin West with 14. West also had nine serves while Haley Coffer tallied eight.
It was a different story in Breckenridge on Sept. 4 as Jessie Kalkins amassed 19 kills and Irvin had 12 to lead Glen Rose to a four-set win, 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18.
Joining the hitting party were West with nine kills and Kaycie Brown with eight. Haley Coffer had 16 serves, Brown tallied 14, Catelyn Klipfel added 12 and Calkins and West each had 11.
Glen Rose finished second in pool play in the Peaster Tournament, falling to Peaster 18-25, 20-25 before defeating Eastland 25-16, 25-14, and Millsap 25-12, 25-14.
In bracket action, the Lady Tigers edged Fort Worth Castleberry for the second time this season by the count of 25-14, 21-25, 25-22. Glen Rose then fell in the semifinals to Crawford, 13-25, 13-25, before dropping the third-place match to Godley 22-25, 19-25.
