Glen Rose split with Whitney and Hillsboro on the District 12-3A baseball diamond last week, leaving the Tigers one win away from clinching a spot in the state playoffs.

The Tigers entered Tuesday’s battle against West needing just one win to secure a second place finish, safely inside the three-team playoff cut. Kennedale has already won the district title, while the Tigers and West trail in second and third.

Glen Rose visits Venus at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the regular season finale.

Whitney, a team GRHS knocked off 12-2 in the first loop of district play, needed a win to stay alive in the postseason race, and got it thanks to pitching and defense last Tuesday.

Clerke Eliot tripled then scored on an error in the first inning, but the Tigers would not score again.

Whitney took advantage of three Tiger errors to score its first run in the fourth, and added the winning run in the seventh thanks to an error, a walk and a wild pitch.

Glen Rose recovered against Hillsboro Friday with a 9-7 win.

The Tigers trailed 4-0 after the third, but scored eight times in the fourth to crack it open.

Five Hillsboro errors in the inning helped the Tigers, who picked up doubles by Dylan Mobley and Teague to take the lead, then stretch it to as many as four runs.

Hillsboro scored three of the last four tallies, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Tigers, who snapped out of a two-game skid with the win.
