GRISD staff joined together for lunch and convocation on Monday in honor of the new school year.

Glen Rose ISD hosted an all-around staff convocation on Monday to welcome back employees for the new school year.

"This is the first day our staff is back," Superintendent Wayne Rotan said. "Today we set our focus and goals for the year. Our focus this year is being champions for students and ambassadors for public schools."

The program started at 8:30 a.m. with refreshments provided by GRISD administrative staff. At 9 a.m., greetings ensued while the GRHS cheerleaders and the Tiger Pride Band played and pepped up the staff. Dr. Ellen Blair, assistant superintendent of instruction, welcomed everyone and introduced several new facets of GRISD, including new hires and campus improvements. She was followed by a keynote address from Suzie Humphreys.

After Humphreys' inspiring speech,a short break followed the superintendent's address, and then even more words of encouragement from GRISD Board President Kelley Snodgrass.

"It was amazing," Humphreys said.

Humphreys' message was to the staff of GRISD was that "we can do it".

"We just want to empower all the different things they do for the district and that what we do is very important. We support each other and that we can do it," said Blair of Humphreys message.

Lunch was catered by Big Cup Eatery for all GRISD staff and invited guests in the GR High School cafeteria. A sight to be seen as teachers and staff filled the lunchroom, smiling between bites and chatting with their peers much like the students they teach and interact with on a daily basis.

After lunch, teachers and staff retreated back to their respective schools for vertical team meetings.

"We want to start the year on a positive note since we always end on a positive note," Blair said. "This is an amazing place to work."
