Owners of WaBi + SAbi, Michael and Lorraine Ruegsegger, offer "imperfect art" in their new business located in downtown Glen Rose.

WaBi + SAbi, a new Texas artisan gallery, just opened its doors on May 22 in Glen Rose at 116 NE Barnard Street.

Owners Michael and Lorraine Ruegsegger have lived in the “Dinosaur Capital of Texas” for almost five years and really love the history that encompasses downtown.

They decided to incorporate their love of art into a business, and thus, WaBi + SAbi was born.

“Wabi-sabi means the art of imperfection,” Lorraine said. “We have a very unique blend of artisans and vendors here.”

The Ruegseggers have approximately 18 vendors and artists who all currently live in Texas.

“I'm really proud of that. I think that pushed us to realize we do have so many Texas artists here – we’ve just become a Texas artisan gallery,” Lorraine said.

“We have artists that do paintings, artists that do photography, handmade handbags...We have some antiques. We have upholstered furniture that are one of a kind – lamp shades that are one of a kind. We’ve got beautiful minerals, crystals and vessels made from onyx; it’s a beautiful presentation of such a wide variety of artists.”

When asked what makes their business unique, Lorraine said, “The fact that we are one-of-a-kind.”

“You’re not going to find the same items down the street. They are all one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork; they are not duplicated,” she said.

Lorraine said she loves her business because she gets to work in an environment that “feels so good” and she loves being able to see her friends every day.

“I love getting to meet people and share stories,” she said. “Everybody's got a story. People appreciate the different kinds of art that we have. It’s very unique and I think it’s a good addition to Glen Rose so we’re excited; we feel like it’s going to be a good thing.”

WaBi + SAbi is open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
