Despite COVID-19, the annual Fourth of July celebration for Glen Rose is still taking place, with a parade, concert, fireworks and the Field of Flags celebration.

The theme for this year’s parade is “Proud to be an American” and the fun will kick off at 8:30 a.m., as floats for the parade will leave the Glen Rose High School auditorium parking lot and make their way to the square. The parade is sponsored by the Glen Rose Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Glen Rose Chamber of Commerce. Sound will be provided by Squaw Creek Sound & Music.

The newest addition to the Fourth of July celebration is the free to attend Field of Flags ceremony, where two fields will be displaying hundreds of flags from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. to proudly honor those who protect and serve our country.

Field 1 is in memory of Rhett Butler and will display flags at Oakdale Park; Field 2 is in memory of Kristopher Higdon and will display flags at the GRISD field.

Fields will be available for viewing on July 3-5 from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.

The fireworks show and concert is sponsored by the Somervell County Water District and will be held from 7-11 p.m. at Wheeler Branch Park, located at 2099 County Road 301.

Attendees will enjoy music by the Brady Hulsey Band from 7-9:30 p.m., with the 10th annual Fourth of July Firework Show following the performance.

The park will open at 7 a.m., with a regular admission fee of $5 for adults/$2 for kids for county residents and $10 for adults/$5 for kids for non-county residents. Free admission to the park will start after 7 p.m.

The Somervell County Water District advises attendees to please follow the minimum standard health protocols for outdoor events located at

"We are so excited there is so much to offer in our Glen Rose community, with such a wide variety of outdoor activities this July 4th. We look forward to seeing everyone's smiling faces!” said Kristen Gibson, director of the Glen Rose Convention & Visitors Bureau. “For those who are unable or uncomfortable getting out to attend the events in person, we will be providing video snippets and photos on our Facebook page and website for you to enjoy!"
