GLEN ROSE — Glen Rose was one of just 314 high schools in the state of Texas to receive the 2020 College Success Award handed out by GreatSchools.org.

“This award is a direct reflection of the strong partnerships we have made with our students’ parents, the dedication of our counselors to student success and the high expectations our teachers have of our students,” said GRHS principal Kelly Shackelford in a news release.

Glen Rose was also one of 2,158 schools from 29 states to received the award. In earning the award, GRHS has a proven track record of graduating students, who are ready for college-level course loads, enrolling in two- or four-year colleges or universities.

“We applaud Glen Rose High School for prioritizing high-quality public education, putting students on the path to bright futures,” said Jon Deane, CEO of GreatSchools.org in a news release. “Over the past year, students, parents, teachers and communities have relied on one another like never before. We congratulate and thank all of these individuals at Glen Rose High School for their unwavering pursuit of college success for all students.”

GreatSchools.org stated in the press release that by 2027, 70% of the jobs will require a postsecondary degree.

According to the news release, despite the unprecedented disruptions to the educational landscape this year, GRHS has adopted and upheld many best practices to support their students’ college preparation and success, including providing access to rigorous academic offerings, providing academic and college counseling both virtually and in-person, and identifying and supporting at-risk students at every grade level.
