Somervell County, GRISD COVID-19 report

According to a report released by Glen Rose Medical Center on Tuesday, there have been 513 confirmed cases of COVD-19 in Somervell County with 412 probable cases for a total of 925. There have been three deaths, 29 confirmed cases in isolation and another 18 probable cases on isolation.

According to Glen Rose ISD’s report also released on Tuesday, there are currently four active student cases of COVID-19 in Glen Rose High School, and one active staff case at Glen Rose Intermediate for a total of five.

Crawfish boil at Oakdale

Oakdale RV Resort and Motor Court is hosting a crawfish boil on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 2-5 p.m. Tickets are $25 each. Parking is $5 and there is a $5 BOYB cooler fee. Food will be provided by Grill 214, and Zak Webb will provide live entertainment from 2-4 p.m.

Simple Simon’s Pizza to reopen in February

Simple Simon’s Pizza announced on its Facebook page last week that it will reopen on Feb. 10. It will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday-Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

The popular pizza joint located on Highway 67, burned down in two fires on consecutive days in June 2019.

Passover at The Promise

The Promise-Glen Rose will be hosting “The Promise of Passover” at the Texas Amphitheater March 26-28 and April 2-3. Tickets will go on sale Feb. 1. For more information, visit

Kickstart My Heart is Feb. 27

Registration is now open for Kickstart My Heart benefit race that will be held Feb. 27 at 8 a.m. in the back parking lot of the Glen Rose Medical Center.

Racers can sign up for the $25 event at

The race is being held in memory of Hayley Cary Darnell and proceeds will benefit the Roger E. Marks Healthcare Foundation.

Soccer sign-ups now being taken

The Glen Rose Soccer Association is now accepting registrations for the 2021 spring soccer season, and registrations will be taken through Jan. 28.

Individuals can register at or you can register in person at Sundown Subs on Jan. 23 from 9-12 p.m. or Jan. 28 from 4-8 p.m. Coed U4-U5, $50; Coed U6-U7, $85; boys and girls U8, $85; boys and girls U9-U10, $95; boy and girls U11-U12, $105; boys and girls U13, U14, U15, U16, $110.

U8-U14 will start play March 6 and U16 will start March 27.
