Look no further for weekend activities close to home

The PRCA Rodeo kicks off tonight in Glen Rose at the Somervell County Expo Center. The Rattlesnake Roundup begins Friday at noon in Walnut Springs.

An action-packed weekend kicks off today with the PRCA Rodeo in Glen Rose and the Rattlesnake Roundup in Walnut Springs.

The PRCA Rodeo opens tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Somervell County Expo Center, and continues Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. Box office opens at 5 p.m. Tickets are also available at Tiger Corner, Storiebook Café, Glen Rose Family Chiropractic and Country Peddler in Glen Rose and Arrow Feeds in Granbury.

There will be mutton busting for the kids, and sign-ups are taken at the event. The PRCA Rodeo features all seven sanctioned events, including bareback riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, ladies’ barrel racing and bull riding.

A portion of the proceeds from the event benefit Glen Rose and Granbury high school scholarships and other non-profit organizations.

In Walnut Springs, beginning at noon on Friday, the Rattlesnake Roundup takes center stage.

The event features snake exhibitionists and food vendors, including the chance to try fried rattlesnake.

Snake exhibitions will be held hourly on Friday from noon to 7 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be a snake dance on Saturday evening inside the community center. Admission is $10, and no glass containers are permitted. Music will be provided by 3 Rivers Shine band.
