It looks like, just maybe, that the ice and snow is behind us and that spring is upon us. The Somervell County Citizens Center is planning some fun things for St. Patty’s Day and Easter, so stay tuned.

The center is starting up game night on the third Friday of the month again. Come join us for your favorite board game at 6 p.m. on March 20.

The next dance will be on Friday, March 13, featuring Michael Cote. Admission is $5 at the door, and light refreshments are included. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the band starts at 7 p.m.

The center will be celebrating St. Patty’s Day this year with a pub theme. Two trivia teams will be formed to play some “local pub” trivia. There will also be some pretzels and non-alcoholic beer. Sorry, but those are rules of the owners of the building, Somervell County. There will also be the usual wearing of the “most green” including a prize for the winner.

Winners of last week’s Forty-Two tournament were: Dortha Beck and Nancy Moore in first place; John and Phyllis Psencik in second; Tamra Black and Billie Flanary in third; and Pat Thompson and Zula Hunter in fourth. Others playing in the tournament were Janelle Gartrell and Ann Parham and Dorothy Jo Osborn and Loveda Swaim.

Activities at the Citizen’s Center beginning March 16 include:

Monday – Gospel singing/potluck, Chess and Bingo.

Tuesday – St. Patrick’s Day celebration, wood carving and Wii bowling.

Wednesday – Forty-Two tournament and blood pressure screening by Lee Healthcare.

Thursday – AARP tax preparation, chess and David’s shopping.

Friday – Bingo and Brookshire’s shopping.

Besides the scheduled activities, there are games, puzzles, Forty-Two and visiting going on every day.

If you know anyone who may need meals, transportation, an emergency response system, medical equipment, Food Stamp (SNAP), Medicaid or Food Bank applications, utility assistance applications or any other senior oriented services, please call or come by the Center.

Remember that you don’t have to be a senior to come and enjoy all of our activities or eat lunch with us. Don’t forget to visit our website at for menus, activities, articles, links to other sites and lots of pictures or “like” our Facebook page “Somervell Citizens’ Center.” For more information, call the center at 254-897-2139, or stop by!
