Christmas in Action to be held March 28
The workday for the Christmas In Action campaign has been set for Saturday, March 28.
The program is open to homes that must be owned by the person living on the property, and provides for needed repairs that are conducted by teams of workers.
The purpose of the program is the renovation of substandard housing of low-income elderly and/or disabled homeowners who are physically or financially unable to perform the work themselves. To accomplish this goal, the organization promotes renovations on a year-round basis, while concentrating its efforts during the month of April.
Currently, there are three confirmed projects and a fourth may materialize, according to DeeDee Jones.
The workday starts at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, as volunteers gather at First United Methodist Church Family Center to receive assignments and join with their workgroups. Lunch, catered by Bernia’s and the Pie Peddlers, will be served to volunteers on their worksites. Generally, the projects are concluded by mid-afternoon. Questions can be directed to Deedee Jones at 254-396-1145 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The organization is currently in need of volunteers and is seeking people from all walks of life to work in teams. The board will select team captains and each house captain chooses a project for its team to accomplish from the list of qualified and approved homes.
Registration forms can be picked up at the First United Methodist Church, Century 21 Quad J Realty, Higginbotham's, Glen Rose News and the Glen Rose Reporter, or call 254-396-1145.
