Walnut Springs ISD is one of 22 districts participating in the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) grant activities. Polly Bonner is GEAR UP site facilitator for the district.

GEAR UP is designed to help more young Americans stay in school, develop good study habits and take the correct courses to lay a foundation for college. A partnership funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the GEAR UP college link is administered in Central Texas by Education Service Center Region 12 to give students who are set to graduate from Walnut Springs High School in 2017 or 2018, the skills, encouragement and preparation to pursue a college education.
