Glen Rose Lions Club sponsorship of the March 20-21 open house of the new facility of Somervell County Food Bank known as “PaPa’s Pantry” benefitted from the extreme generosity of county residents. Lee Sundby, Lions chairman for the event said, “This can only be characterized as a “Texas Size Success” with a “WOW” thrown in for good measure.”

Through March 23, monetary donations to the “Lions Fill the Shelves Drive” totaled $17,242.

Glen Rose Lions Club matched the first $5000 contributed. Together the $22,242 purchased cases of much needed items such as peanut butter, mac&cheese, hamburger helper, tuna, soup, canned fruits and vegetables. A special thank you to Brookshires for the special prices on the case lot purchases, to Bernàs and Hammonds for the food service and to the Glen Rose newspapers for the special coverage of the Glen Rose Lions Club, the Somervell County Food Bank and the entire open house event.

With regard to the $5,000 Lions Club matching gift, Sundby said the “the Lions Club can be generous only because of the generosity of sponsors for Lions Club events throughout the year.”

The sponsors for our girls and boys basketball tournament in December included First Financial Bank, Luminant Energy, Kris Brown Cleburne, Mike Brown Auto Group, Melrose Construction, Chalk Mountain Services of Texas, Skipper Industries, Cross of Christ Episcopal Church, Susan Baker DDS, Glen Rose Medical Center, Cleburne Fence, Harris Real Estate, Durant Toyota, Henson Lumber, Farmer’s Insurance, KCLE ESPN Radio, FMC Technologies, Inc. Somervell County Food Bank owes its new building, completed and debt free, entirely to the generosity of Somervell residents and companies. This generosity included gifts of land, volunteer labor and construction funds.
