Citizens Center's monthly Swap and Shop scheduled for Friday

SPECIAL to the

Kids have started back to school and Christmas will be upon us sooner than it seems. This is a great time to clean out your closets and such and bring your extra things to our monthly Swap & Shop. Swap & Shop is always the first Friday of the month from 8:30 til 4:30. (However, most of our vendors close up after lunch.) Only $5 for a table to sell your garage sale items, crafts, baked goods or whatever you have. Call and talk to Sandy.

Our next dance will be this Friday, August 28th featuring Never Too Late. Admission is $5 at the door. Doors open at six and the band starts-up at seven. Come on down and listen to some great live music and even take a turn on the dance floor. As always, we are an alcohol and tobacco free facility.

Winners of last week’s Forty-Two tournament were: Billie Flanary & Tamra Black in first place, Royce Stacy & Clark Stewart in second, Nancy Moore & Dortha Beck in third and John Psencik & Loveda Swaim in fourth. Others playing in the tournament were: Pat Thompson & Ted Jett and Zula Hunter & Ann Parham.

Activities at the Citizen’s Center beginning August 31st are: Bingo on Monday, hearing screening by Treadway Hearing, Chess, wood carving and Wii bowling on Tuesday, Forty-Two tournament, utility assistance from TX Neighborhood Services, blood sugar testing by Cherokee Rose Nursing & Rehab and line dancing lessons on Wednesday; Chess and David’s shopping on Thursday and Swap & Shop, Bingo and shopping trip to Brookshire’s on Friday. Besides the scheduled activities, there are games, puzzles, Forty-Two and visiting going on every day. Don’t see it on the calendar? Make a suggestion; we’re always looking for new ideas.

If you know anyone who may need meals, transportation, an emergency response system, medical equipment, Food Stamps (SNAP), Medicaid or Food Bank applications, utility assistance applications or any other senior oriented services, please call or come by the Center.

Remember that you don’t have to be a senior to come and enjoy all of our activities or eat lunch with us. You can go to our Facebook page “Somervell Citizens’ Center” for lots of pictures and the next day’s menu and scheduled events and don’t forget to “like” our page.
