We will be holding our 47th annual Older Texan Awards on May 18 at 11 am. The nominees are secret and are revealed at the awards ceremony. If you’ve never been awarded, then it might be you, this year! Please give us a call if you plan to attend and have lunch with us.

We will be honoring our mothers at the Center Friday, May 12, at 11:30 with some refreshments and favors for all the mothers.

In case you missed it, we are changing our Swap & Shop from monthly to just three or four times a year. Our next Swap & Shop will be on Friday, July 21st from 8:30-2:30 and then again on November 17th. It’s just $5 for a table to sell your wares…craft items, garage sale items, baked goods, etc. Get to making your crafts or cleaning out the garage!

We are looking for some volunteer receptionist help and we are still looking for fill-in kitchen help and fill-in drivers. Apply in person at the Center, 209 SW Barnard.

Winners of last week’s Forty-Two tournament were Nancy Moore & Dortha Beck in first place, Tom Swaim & Don Baker in second, Billie Flanary & Tamra Black in third and Dorothy Jo Osborn & Loveda Swaim in fourth. Others playing were: John Psencik & Ann Parham and James Kelley & Clark Stewart.

Our next dance will be this Friday, May 12, featuring Western Reunion.  Doors open at 6 p.m. and cost is $5 at the door.

Activities at the Citizen’s Center beginning May 15th are: Gospel music/ potluck supper, Chess and Bingo on Monday, fitness group and wood carving on Tuesday; Forty-Two  tournament, blood pressure testing by Lee Healthcare, therapy talk by Cherokee Rose Nursing & Rehab  and Dollar General shopping on Wednesday; 47th annual Older Texan Awards, Chess and local grocery shopping on Thursday and Mother’s Day celebration, Friday night dance, Bingo and local grocery shopping on Friday.

Besides the scheduled activities, there are games, puzzles, Forty Two and visiting going on every day.  Don’t see it on the calendar? Make a suggestion; we’re always looking for new ideas.

Remember that you don’t have to be a senior to come and enjoy all of our activities or eat lunch with us. You can go to our Facebook page “Somervell Citizens’ Center” for lots of pictures and the next day’s menu and scheduled events and don’t forget to “like” our page.
