If your birthday is in May or even if it’s not, come enjoy a hearty pot roast lunch complete with birthday cake and live music by Margie Hartsfield beginning Wednesday, May 24, at 11 a.m. and lunch served at noon. Please call and let us know if you plan to eat lunch.

Our Tuesday fitness group, led by GRMC and Glen Rose Nursing & Rehab has been meeting on their own on Thursdays at the same time (10:30) and exercising along with a video. If you haven’t already joined us, it’s not too late to start.

We are looking for some volunteer receptionist help and we are still looking for fill-in kitchen help and fill-in drivers. Apply in person at the Center, 209 SW Barnard.

Winners of last week’s Bunco tournament were Phyllis Psencik with the most Buncos, Caroline Abrego with the most wins and Kenna Kay Nuckols with the most losses. Others playing were: Tom Swaim, Carole Kofke, Jackie Smith, John Psencik, Ann Parham, Betty Flanagan and Janet Stacy.

Our next dance will be this Friday, May 26th with DJ David Gunter spinning the classic country hits.  Doors open at 6 and cost is $5 at the door.

Activities at the Citizen’s Center beginning May 22nd are: Chess and Bingo on Monday, fitness group and wood carving on Tuesday; Bunco tournament, blood pressure testing by GRMC, May birthday celebration and Dollar General shopping on Wednesday; Chess and local grocery shopping on Thursday and Friday night dance, Bingo and local grocery shopping on Friday.

Besides the scheduled activities, there are games, puzzles, Forty Two and visiting going on every day.  Don’t see it on the calendar? Make a suggestion; we’re always looking for new ideas.

If you know anyone who may need meals, transportation, an emergency response system, medical equipment, Food Stamps (SNAP) or Food Bank applications, utility assistance applications or any other senior oriented services, please call or come by the Center.

Remember that you don’t have to be a senior to come and enjoy all of our activities or eat lunch with us. You can go to our Facebook page “Somervell Citizens’ Center” for lots of pictures and the next day’s menu and scheduled events and don’t forget to “like” our page.
