Stephenson receives scholarship from Marks Foundation

Glen Rose senior Abby Stephenson was presented a $4,000 scholarship by the Dr. Roger E. Marks Healthcare Foundation by Marks Foundation Board member Angie Robertson earlier this month.

Stephenson is planning to attend Lipscomb University in Nashville, where she will study medicine.

Flag retirement ceremony is Tuesday

Boy Scout Troop 725 and American Legion Oliver Wendell Buzan, Post 0462, will be holding a flag retirement ceremony at 7 p.m. Tuesday at 2261 CR 1001 in Glen Rose.

The event is free to the public.

Sign-ups for GRISD summer sports camps

Registrations are now being accepted for Glen Rose ISD summer sports camps.

There are camps available for football (1st-6th grades); football (7th-9th); volleyball; boys and girls basketball; tennis; and softball.

Camps begin as early as June 2 (football, 1st-6th, volleyball and girls basketball), and all camps are $60, except for tennis, which is $30.

Lifeguards needed at Glen Lake Camp & Retreat Center

Glen Lake Camp and Retreat Center have openings for lifeguards, and it would be ideal for a high school or college student (16 or older).

Texas A&M AgriLife hosting summer camps

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office will be hosting a leadership camp (June 16), a Clover Club Kid Camp (July 26) and a photography camp (Aug. 9) during the summer break.

Read Southall Band to perform in Glen Rose

The Dr. Roger E. Marks Healthcare Foundation is hosting the Read Southall Band with Cody Canada and The Departed on Friday, July 23, at 8 p.m. at the Texas Amphitheater.

Summer reading program kicks off June 3

The Glen Rose Intermediate School and Glen Rose Elementary libraries will kick off the Cool Reads summer reading program on June 3 from 9 a.m. to noon with a kayaking and water safety event held in conjunction with Dinosaur Valley State at Heritage Park.

You can pick out a free book, get a cool treat and kayak the Paluxy River.
