GLEN ROSE — The Glen Rose Lions Club awarded $1,000 scholarships to 10 graduating seniors of Glen Rose High School in its annual awards ceremony on May 5 at The Rooster at Squaw Valley Golf Course.

The Lions Club, working in conjunction with the Glen Rose Optimist Club, also provided an additional $1,000 scholarship to the highest-ranking student, who was valedictorian Jenna White, in memory of Hugh M. Smith, who was an active member of both clubs.

The $1,000 scholarship recipients are: Jenna White (Texas A&M); Emery Brewer (Texas A&M); Trinidy McCoy (Texas A&M); Sammuel Aldreidge (Texas A&M); Xochitel Adriana Corrujedo (Angelo State); Ashlynn Perry (Lipscomb University); Laney Whitefield (Texas Tech); Angela Herrea (Texas Tech); Emma Ragon (Universal Tech Institute); and Ruth Point (Hill College).

The Hill College scholarship that was awarded to Point is given in the name of Lion and former administrator Maurice English.

Also, the Lions Club presented a $500 check to former Glen Rose ISD superintendent Wayne Rotan, a representative of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

In addition, the Lions Club presented Lisa Andersen, a representative of the Roger Marks Foundation, with a $500 check to help with improvements at Glen Rose Medical Center.

Each year, the Glen Rose Lions Club gives out in excess of $30,000 to the community and Lions International projects all made possible by donations from corporate sponsors, proceeds from the Glen Rose Lions Club invitational basketball tournaments held in the first two weekends in December, and the Glen Rose Lions Club golf tournament.
