JV White Tigers move to 3-0
The season is young, but the JV White Tigers are making it happen so far.
Glen Rose (3-0) held Peaster in check March 17, taking a 5-0 lead in an 8-3 win. The Tigers had more hits (4-3).
"I'm pretty pleased with the guys," said coach Fred Cordova. "We didn't hit the ball very well early in the game, but we settled in and our bats heated up. We're getting timely hits and playing solid defense."
Codey Barker (3 IP, 2 W, 4 K) got the start, while Brennan Cary (1 IP, 1 W, 1 K) got the save.
"Walks have been an issue for our pitchers, but I think (Tuesday) we worked through that," Cordova said. "At the same time, two of their three runners to score got on with walks. Barker retired the side in the second, and then we scored a run in the top of the third to boost the guys mentally (up 5-0)."
Hitters were Ty Campbell (RBI single), Connor Hansen (RBI single), Barker (single) and Kully Reynolds (single).
The game ended with an unassisted double play by shortstop Tyler Torres.
"We dug ourselves a hole with the bases loaded, but Cary came in with a strikeout and then got the batter to line out to Torres," Cordova said. "The runner on second took off early, so Tyler stepped on the bag and got us out of there."
The White Tigers will be put to the test at home March 20 at 4:30 p.m. against Brock.
"We had a few errant throws (Tuesday), and one cost us a run, so we need to work on that, as well as being smart baserunners while still being aggressive," the coach said.
