FORT WORTH -- The Glen Rose freshmen volleyball team kicked off the 2015 season with a 25-11, 25-14 sweep of Western Hills on Tuesday evening in Fort Worth. The Lady Tigers cruised through the opening set, and finished the second set on a 16-5 run.

Natalie Lacey paved the way in the serving department in the game’s opening set, accounting for five aces. Not to be outdone, Justice McCrae contributed three aces and a kill for the Lady Tigers. Eight of the 11 Cougar points were scored off of Lady Tiger errors in set one, and 11 of the 14 points in set two, however, it was obvious that was due more to rust from a long summer than mental mistakes. There was little doubt to which team was superior.

The second set was won from the service line, and the Lady Tigers’ 12 aces nearly matched the Cougars point total for the game. It should also be noted, that Glen Rose broke every Western Hills serve in both sets. Sammy Hood led the way with four aces, Anna Quinlan chipped in three, Justice McCrae and Chloe Deason accounted for two each, and Lindsay Hartman split the defense for one.

The Lady Tigers’ freshmen squad will take the weekend off before returning to the hardwood on Tuesday, Aug. 18 in Joshua. Their showdown with the Owls is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
