Coach Cliff Watkins' Glen Rose Tigers, pictured during their hot Tuesday afternoon football practice, continued to make progress in getting prepared for the 2019 season. Watkins said there are about 90 high school players who came out for football this fall, and he expects to carry 30 on the varsity.

The Tigers ended their first week of practice last Saturday with an intra-squad scrimmage. Their first inter-squad scrimmage will be Friday, Aug. 16, at home at Tiger Stadium against Stephenville.

The junior varsity scrimmage is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., to be followed by the varsity at about 6:30. Glen Rose will have its second scrimmage Aug. 22 at Graham. The Tigers' regular-season opener will be at Grandview (7:30 p.m.) on Friday, Aug. 30.
