MIMS: Glen Rose senior Jocelyn Mims won the District 6-4A cross country title Wednesday in Lampasas.

GLEN ROSE — For the fourth time in her stellar cross country career, senior Jocelyn Mims will represent Glen Rose at the Class 4A Regional Cross Country meet in Lubbock.

Mims earned the rite by winning the District 6-4A meet Wednesday in Lampasas with the winning time of 12 minutes, 46.30 seconds on the 2-mile course. It was her seventh consecutive first-place finish this season.

“Jocelyn Mims has had an outstanding four-year career at Glen Rose,” Lady Tigers girls cross country coach Ramsey Ghazal said. “It’s great to see her capping it off with such a stellar senior season. District championships are not easy to come by. She has worked really hard for this.”

Glen Rose’s Mignon Miller was in the top 20, finishing 16th with the time of 13:58.40, and Bianca Contreras (14:32.10), Delalila Gomez (14:52.40) and Zitalli Mascorro (15:30.10) finished 23rd, 25th and 29th, respectively.

As a team, the Lady Tigers finished fourth overall with 92 points.

Gatesville, with three racers in the top 10, won the team title with 41 points, followed by Stephenville (55) and Lampasas (58). Brownwood was fifth (116).

The top two teams qualify for regionals and anyone not on those teams who finish in the top 10 overall.

Due to COVID-19, new UIL restrictions limit who can qualify for regionals, and under the old rules, Miller would have qualified.

“That almost shrinks the runners that advance by 10 to 15 girls,” Ghazal said. “Mignon ran a good race. She moved from around 20th a month ago into 14th place.”

Mims will run Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. in Lubbock at the Regional meet.

“They are taking less runners from regionals as well onto state, but I really like where Jocelyn is right now,” Ghazal said.
